November Garden

It is nearly the middle of November, and the garden still has some interest in it.
The wonderful catkins on the Garrya Elliptica
Winter Violas in hanging basket
Leaves on the grape vine
Hydrangea flowers have taken on their autumn colours
Variegated Periwinkle
Hardy fern
Winter heather
Porch geraniums still surviving
California poppy eschscholzia californica
Box ball Buxus Sempervirens
Hardy cranesbill geranium
Sweetpea
Time to put the artichokes to bed with a nice thick layer of straw

  1. Hello Rosemary:
There is so much of interest to see in your garden for so late in the gardening year. We have so enjoyed our tour.

Garrya elliptica was a firm favourite of ours in our gardening days. First seen we think at Bodnant in North Wales and then hastily tracked down by us for those slatey, silvery catkins which are so very unusual.

  3. I love those catkins too Jane and Lance, and as you know they get better and better as the season passes on and they open up more.

  4. Last year Kate, as I am sure you will remember, we had snow by the end of November.

  5. Hi, Rosemary - Your garden is amazingly colorful for this time of year! The Garrya Elliptica appears to have ice on it! Here in Florida, when we get a freeze, the strawberry growers spray their plants with water so that they'll get covered with ice. Ironically, the ice protects the plants against the frost.

  6. The weather has been so kind to our gardens this autumn - it's amazing what you still have flowering and looking pretty amidst the autumn colours. Lovely photos - thank you!

  7. Dear Mark - It does look like ice, but in fact is only the remains of a light rainfall. Amazingly we have not had any frost or really cold weather yet - fingers crossed.
