My round photos

Regrettably I have removed the post on how to create my round photos. I was very happy to share the process with you all. It is a very straightforward process once you have mastered the technique. However, it did actually take me a lot of time, trial and error before I managed to achieve it.
During the process it is necessary to first make the photos oval, and then carry on from there to make them round.
I have come across a blog using my technique, not a follower on my blog, but a follower on one of my follower's blogs. My follower has my posts on her sidebar and that is most likely where she has seen the post. I recognised that she had used my technique immediately because before she managed to master the round pictures she did some posts showing ovals only.
Several of her commenter's asked her how she had done the round photo but she has not divulged where she learnt the technique.
I was perplexed, in my experience Bloggers are very generous at sharing and usually recognise help they have gained from another blog, normally with a credit/link.
I have now book-marked her blog and will see if an acknowledgement is forthcoming.
It maybe that it was just an oversight on her part, if so I should be very happy for her to acknowledge this.
In the meantime if any of you require any help making round photos, then please let me know and I will gladly help.

  1. I think it only polite and correct to mention where we have seen things. on a post or another blog. Its upsetting, when one puts so much effort into being a seerious blogger and taking time to organise and publish it.
That is not acceptable. I hope she/he comes forward.
Rosemary. Do you remember how you told us all how to make the
collages of photos. I remember that dear Olympia found out how to do it and thanked you..
I wrote that i couldnt do it. I now know why. I have to have adobe flash to download it. unfortunately lost my password. So now must wait until Manel comes home from his hols to help me re set it. I dont want to loose anything on my computer.
I am looking forward in the future to posting some pretty collage photos like you do.
My own opinion sometimes of blogging, is that some people really dont read the blogs..they just want to write and dont acknowledge ..! I might be wrong..
happy day Rosemary. looking forward to seeing your round photos.

    1. Dear Val - you are always such a great commentator and always so supportive.
I was surprisingly quite taken aback when I discovered this persons blog.
I think that it is the fact that I had spent a long time playing around with the photos on the computer in order to achieve the round photos, and felt jubilant once I had managed to do it. I was happy to share the knowledge with others in the same way that Bloggers have shared and helped me.
There should be a simple way of you resetting your computer easily. Next time my son is on Skype I will try and get him to explain to me how it is done. I think that you said you have a Mac too.
      Thank you Val.

  2. Hi Rosemary, Your round photos are very characteristic of you, and add a lot of interest to your blog and thumbnails. However, I am a little confused--are these round photos different that just cutting a circle out of the middle of a regular photo?

    1. Yes, it is a technique that I have devised using PicMonkey. Several bloggers asked me how I made them, and I gave a lesson on a post to show how I did them. I just use my ordinary digital photos on the computer and manipulate them. If you are interested in giving it a go then I can email some instructions to you.

  4. Hi, Rosemary - I am so glad you spoke up! And I know how you feel. Something similar happened to me. Your posts are thoughtfully and beautifully done, and it is obvious you put a lot of time into each one....the research, photography and writing. I hope the person will acknowledge and thank you.

  6. Hello Rosemary:
How very disturbing. As you say one is normally very conscious of the generosity and kindness to be found everywhere throughout the Blogosphere. We do hope this is an oversight.

However, we have to admit to being light years behind you where technology is concerned and are always very aware of what wonderful images you consistently produce, regardless of shape!

We leave for Venice shortly and will be away from our computer and so unable to comment for a few days. But we will return!

Wonderful, wonderful Venice. Hope I am in time to wish you both a lovely trip and look forward to seeing some great photos on your return.

  7. Dear Rosemary -

I am sorry that someone has disappointed you, but it happens to the best of artists. My recent posting on the Sistine Ceiling induced me to reread Irving Stone's "The Agony and the Ecstasy." In it, Irving recounts how Michelangelo kept the chapel locked because he knew that Raphael would copy his style. That irritated Michelangelo all the more because he also knew that by the time he unveiled the ceiling, Raphael would have unveiled a smalled piece in the Sistine style, and everyone would assume that Michelangelo was the copyist!!

My own experience is that being generous, sharing (and giving credit) always returns to the originator tenfold.

    1. Dear Mark - a comparison with Michelangelo is very profound!!!
H believes that I should just have let it go, however, it has been playing on my mind for the past few days.
At least it has now got it off my chest. Thank you for helping me to put it all into perspective.

  8. Dear Rosemary, The very first time I saw one of your roundels I just had to know how you did it. I had tried on my own and had worked out part of it (achieving the oval) but could get no further. You were so kind and posted a how to. It was easy to follow and not difficult because you explained it perfectly. I checked back and noticed that I gave you credit for coming up with this very ingenious way of editing photos. Part of blogging and what also makes it worthwhile is the credit and accolades we receive from our readers. I hope that the person in question will step forward and acknowledge her oversight. oxoxoxox, Gina

    1. Dear Gina - I was really taken by surprise when I saw the wonderful post you did after I first showed how to make the round photos, and you were definitely my star pupil. Your appreciation was thoughtful and extremely generous. The person involved only needs to acknowledge where she got the technique from and I will be happy.

  10. You did it Rosemary! I knew you could. It's not difficult at all,is it. If you can figure out how to make square pictures into round pictures you can do this and you did. Gosh, this sounds like a song I've heard.

  13. Hey Rosemary, when I just started blogging I also had to experience that not all bloggers are so 'helpful' and want to share things they show, or tell us where they got them. Luckily there are many others who share and give credit to others when they pick something up there. I once saw someone use an image for a cushion that I recognized from another blog. In the comments someone kindly asked where she could find that picture but no answer came. I then gave that person the link to the other blog where she could find it and also put it in a comment on the blog with the cushion. I wouldn't dream of even just putting a photo I found on the internet without putting a 'source' link or mentioning the blog or site otherwise. No, I couldn't live with myself if I wouldn't do that, but I guess there are others... Isn't it exactly like that in real life?....
It is in your case even more frustrating to see others use the idea you so kindly shared and then got no credit for. I just don't understand that.... Why? I would have been pleased to put a link to you and what a great technique you had discovered. I haven't found the time to try out the technique and also, although you shared it, it is so typical you, I wouldn't dream of publishing photos like it I think, it would still feel like 'stealing' it from you a bit, guess I don't like copying others. I am always looking forward to your super round pictures, so typical you, like the picture above, again super!
    Bye,
    Marian

    1. Dear Marian - Joy of joy, you have put a smile on my face this morning, and finally helped me to caste off the feelings I had when I discovered what had happened. For this I really thank you very much.
It is people like you, that I have found through blogging, that have made posting so pleasurable.
You are right it is so typical of life generally, and surprisingly enough, although we do not realise it, we do expose those sides of our character on our blogs that we think might be hidden!!!
Thank you Marian, I am so pleased that I met you♥
