    1. We have to make the most of it whilst it is still with us Nat - I am sure it will be gone in a few days time.

  2. A lovely selection of photos and art Rosemary all of which are very new to me and encapsulate the season perfectly. I also thought that the colours seem to be very vivid and pronounced this year a last burst of retinal warmth before those icy fingers begin to spread out.

    1. I can feel the colder weather in the air today Paul although we have the most wonderful sunshine and blue skies. Time to make the most of it before the tree colours fall to the ground.

  3. A beautiful combination of nature and art Rosemary. Apart from making me want to make the most of the sunshine this morning, with some fabulous autumn colours displayed on the hillsides above Hebden Bridge...it has made me decide a trip to Manchester city art gallery is required....its years since I've been.Thanks. 1. Off to the hills with you Janice and enjoy the colours which will be gone in the bat of an eyelid. Lucky you to have Manchester within easy reach. Do go and report back to me on Autumn Leaves - a favourite painting of mine.

  4. I agree Rosemary that the fall colours this year are so vivid and beautiful. I enjoy and love the fall colours too. The only difficult thing is to wake up in the mornings as it is still dark at dawn. Longer nights and shorter days. I enjoyed your mixing the art onto your post. Have a happy Fall weekend!

    1. Dear Pamela - tonight our clocks go back one hour, so it will be much darker in the mornings and evenings from now on. Once we start on the journey it will eventually lead us back into the lighter days again, Christmas to prepare for, and then spring will be round the corner.

  5. Dear Rosemary,

You are indeed having a good autumn in England. Alas, here in Florida, there are only two seasons; I have to travel considerably north to experience autumn.

    1. Dear Mark - the leaves will fall swiftly from now on, there is a coldness in the air. Now what two seasons are those? are they hot and even hotter!!!

  7. What a difference it would make to our landscape here, If we could have such beautiful autumn leaves.. here the leaves are the same all year around. We have no red leaved trees..
Your photos of the leaves are superb. showing every little vein within.
Love your pumpkins with the shaded effect.
    The paintings are delightful.
    A bright Autumn post ..
    Thank you Rosemary.

(i think i have'nt got the round effect perfect yet..) its stunning.
    happy weekend

    1. Dear Val - the autumn colours are stunning at the moment but I fear they will not be for much long. Today is brilliant sunshine but the air is cold. Apparently they have snow already in the north of Scotland.
I think that you are doing your round effects perfectly. Perhaps you if could show them in a larger size on your posts it would help you feel that you had achieved it better. In order to eliminate the side edges when you make the photo round you need to press transparent corners first. Hope this helps.

    1. Dear Loi - they had snow in the very north of Scotland last night. It is very sunny here but the air is cold. Hope your storm shoots off in another direction and misses you.

  9. Hello Rosemary, The instant I saw the thumbnail, I knew that this was a Rosemary Post. Your nature photos are as appealing as always. The Millais is very nice; perhaps a little over-lush in the Pre-Raphaelite sense. The Peale still-life is immensely appealing and my favorite here; the basket is wonderful, and I'm sure those apples and pears beat anything in the stores today.

The last sequence of your photos here really impressed me. It started out with the relatively normal autumn scene of the tree, but then the colors and the effect of light kept getting more and more intense. Viewing these one after the other reminded me of some effects I have seen in art film and animation.

    Altogether, another knock-out post.

    1. Hello Jim - recognising someone's thumbnail is one of the aspects that I enjoy about blogging. I find it really interesting that we all set off with a blank sheet (so to speak) and end up with our own unique blogs. Each being completely individual as we put our own words, colours, and images on the posts.
Thank you for your very generous comments on this post, I am delighted that you enjoyed it.

  10. Winter wonderland is allready here dear Rosemary...
There is frost every morning and evening and most of the leaves are on the ground by now.
All we wait for now is snow!

Your photographs are beautiful and I like you are giving us such great pieces of art to look at, at this post.

Enjoy the rest the weekend : )

    1. Dear Demie - I am not surprised, as I learnt today that they have snow in the very north of Scotland. Imagine that, snow in October. Good photo opportunities for some!!! every cloud has a silver lining.
So pleased that you enjoyed the photos with the art.
      Take care Demie♥

  11. Beautiful autumn picture, it is the last glimpse of nature before the advent of winter! The golden colour is wonderful! I love the colours of autumn, especially in the high mountains where the vegetation is dense !

  12. Spectacular colours and I love the additions of the paintings too and the effect you have done on the pumpkins they almost look like a still life painting. We had your roasted tomato soup recipe today too, so warming and colourful matching those autumn colours.

    1. Dear Sarah - the colours this year are spectacular, so pleased that you enjoyed them. I did the pumpkins on picmonkey - just popped the photograph into 'effects section' and then into the 'posterised' section, fiddled with it and that was the result. Give it a try.
Glad the soup was OK, the next soup I am making is pumpkin when they come down to rock bottom prices after Halloween has passed.

  13. Gorgeous colours, Rosemary. But most beautiful of all is that amazing painting by Millais! It makes me want to scurry off and learn all about him! Thanks for a beautiful Autumnal post!

    1. I have always loved that Millais painting Kate - sadly the reproduction is not as good as the real thing - I always feel that you can sense Oct/Nov in the painting, and the pile of leaves brings back memories of childhood.

  15. Thank you Rosemary - the autumn colours are wonderful and I enjoyed your choice of paintings.

Although the South Island has wonderful autumn colours, here in the north we have more evergreens and only a few deciduous trees to change colour.

Anyway, the tree outside my window has wonderful lime green leaves now as it gets its spring growth. Spring and autumn are my favourites.

    1. Dear Susan - I think for me spring has the edge. Autumn although beautiful has that presence of winter looming, whereas spring has the summer ahead.
Enjoy the tree outside your window, perhaps you could show it to us?

  16. Hi Rosemary!
This is a beautiful post, full of the beauty and hues of Autumn. It's a beautiful season, though sad, in many ways. The pictures are beautiful and I like the way you alternate photos with works of art. It's a fantastic idea, though the children all look so sad! Children are always happy, no matter what season! The artists reflect their feelings through the eyes of those children, I guess!
It's raining a lot here and I don't feel sad, as I love every season with the changes and "gifts" every one of them brings!

The hues of autumn have been lovely this year, glad you enjoyed the photos and the art. Don't forget to change your clocks tonight - an extra hour in bed tomorrow.

  18. Hello Rosemary

Your opening image reminded me of a Hermes scarf. Your photos would transpose beautifully to silk.

I love the juxtaposition of your photos to the paintings. All beautiful

    1. Hello Helen - now you mention I can see you are right - it would make a lovely scarf, perfect colours to compliment many outfits. The autumn shades have a rich luminosity to them. The leaves are now beginning to go over and are getting darker by the day.
Our clocks went back last night, so an extra hour has been gained today.

    1. My post has a lot of reds Rosemary, because the leaves are mainly from our garden. In the woods there is more of a golden/yellow display, however, as the month moves on all of the leaves are rapidly falling to the ground.
'Follower Sarah' also mentioned the pumpkin photo. I manipulated the photo on picmonkey - just popped the photograph into 'effects section' and then into the 'posterised' section, fiddled with it and that was the result. I suggested Sarah give it a try, and you might like to as well. It is a bit of fun.
