Last few leaves still hanging on....

"Not waving but drowning"
Can you see the big fat red buds ready to burst forth again in the spring?
......until their final descent to the ground.

  1. Hello Rosemary, A country road covered with fall leaves and bordered by an old stone wall, with views into the gently rolling terrain of the woods--you have made us all happy today.

    1. Hello Jim - that is a lovely thing to say, thank you.
The red leaves were taken in our garden this week, and sadly they are all now on the ground.

  3. Dear Rosemary, You are a marvelous photographer, and one thing I especially appreciate about your pictures is the great compositions. Of this grouping, I particularly see that in the fourth from the bottom, with all the leaves in the foreground. What a stunning image!

    1. Thank you Val for your lovely comments. We went to a lecture at the Fine Art Society we belong to yesterday; the little town in the valley below where we live is surrounded by beech woods. I just wanted to capture them before it all vanishes for another year.

  5. You know the significance of waving a white flag? Well these electric scarlet leaves have to mean just the opposite, "I do not surrender!" I love the effect you've added to your 10th photo, nice frame for the central tree and of course your last shot is visual poetry.

    1. Dear Rosemary - I just love the way you add an extra dimension with your words - you have given the little red leaf so much more significance - thank you. His final surrender was during the last 24 hours - that is until next year of course - the marvel of nature.

  7. Such glorious colours, Rosemary. Still some leaves on the trees even up here in the far North, though the wind may soon put paid to them. Sigh....

  8. Rosemary -your pictures are so beautiful, it's sad autumn will soon be over and everything bare but in the meantime it's wonderful to appreciate the colour of each leaf just as your pictures do!

    1. Dear Sarah - this week as been wonderful with its wall to wall sunshine and blue skies as I am sure it has been with you too. It delays that winter feeling for a little bit longer - glad you enjoyed the photos. I wanted to get a final capture of the leaves before the bare branches appear.

  9. Dear Rosemary,
You've reminded me why I adore the autumn so much-- what beautiful photos! You have an excellent eye for composition, and I have to agree with Mark here: my favorite is the photo with what looks like a perilously deep pile of leaves in the foreground...The texture and color remind me of those (16thC?) rooms panelled with elaborately tooled leather... Wonderful! I'm inspired to go out for a walk to enjoy crunching through the last leaves myself- thank you!
    Warm regards,
    Erika

    1. Dear Erika - because the weather has been so dry the carpet of leaves are gloriously crisp and crunchy underfoot, just the way every little child loves them to be. If I had had a child with me I would have thrown then up in the air and watch them sail to the ground.
Yes, I know the kind of tooled leather you are talking about, in fact a house very near here, Dryham, has leather wallhangings in its hall.
      Enjoy your walk.

  18. This autumn seems to us to be more colourful than usual! We were driving along a leafy road this morning, as the sun rose, when we spied an elderly gentleman, camera poised, snapping away at the side of the duel carriageway. Such beauty seems so precious, we want to capture it before it fades.

    1. I heard somewhere that it is because of all the rain we had in the summer, and also the air has been very still which has kept the leaves hanging on for longer. I felt that I wanted to capture it so that can look at it again when the trees are bare.
