February thoughts

Each day the sun wakes earlier, then lingers higher in the sky.
I know that spring is in the air, my garden tells me so. Flowers are poking through the earth, birds are all a twitter.  Every spring is like a first spring to be savoured and enjoyed.
No winter lasts forever; no spring ever skips its turn - Hal Borland.

    1. Dear Marian - isn't it lovely to see the new life arriving? You can see it at first but then suddenly it all happens so quickly.

  2. I bet you a thrilled to see that spring is coming, it's a great time of the year with all the new growth. Daylight, well down this end of the earth it's light till just 9pm but the nights are slowly each day drawing closer as in darkness.

    1. Quite a while to go until it is as light as that here, once the clocks are moved forward and we get an extra hour it helps.

  3. How true - every spring is like the first. We see the daffodils a littler higher each day.

    1. For me the blossom on the trees is the really magical moment of the spring - I love looking up through the trees to the blue sky.

  4. I love the freshness of the change in seasons, and your collage speaks so well of Spring, Rosemary. I especially love the pink/yellow bloom on the upper right, and the lovely iris always bring me joy. Your Springtime coincides with our Autumn, and both bring new life in the form of happy flowers in the garden - whether after the snow of winter or the desperate heat of an Aussie summer!

    1. The pink flower is a Primula, and the irises are the miniature variety. You are right Patricia, nature is so wonderful the way she picks herself up and dusts herself down and starts all over again.

  5. No flowers are so beautiful as the early spring ones. You have pictured some very special ones. I noticed just today that the candy tuft is blooming, and the hellebore. When the forsythia is out in its full glory I know spring has truly arrived.

  6. Gorgeous photos! My garden is still under 3 feet of snow. I won't be doing anything in it for a couple more months. I can dream, though. Love the quote.

    1. We can still get snow here, but not normally - fingers crossed. However spring flowers do seem to be very amenable and tough.

  7. Such a lovely picture collage, Rosemary! Do all those flowers already bloom in your garden? We still have a lot of snow...

    1. Yes, these are all from the garden which I photographed yesterday. When they are all together in a collage they look a lot, but in the garden they are scattered around, however, I was surprised at what was flowering.

  10. Hello Rosemary:
This collage of spring flowers is surely a reminder that winter must now be drawing to an end and that spring is around the corner.

We always associate this time of year with removing all of last year's leaves from the hellebores to allow the flowers to be seen in all their beauty and not against a background of decaying foliage. It was some task!!

    1. Dear Jane and Lance - you have reminded me of a task that I need to do - the hellebores need their leaves removed urgently, however, it is quite a satisfying task they look so much better when it is done.
Spring is definitely in the air.

  11. Hello Rosemary, I have always found it slightly jarring that so many people in temperate climates consider February the start of spring. In Cleveland, at least, it has always seemed to me the coldest, snowiest and bitterest month. Although I always looked forward to spring, March was the earliest that any sort of thaw could be expected.

    1. I recall H visiting my brother in Toronto when the daffodils were out in this country. He said that there was no sign of life in Canada. My brother banged the ground with his spade - the top layer of the ground seemed to echo with the sound of the permafrost.

  12. As another snowfall has started this morning here in West Yorkshire, I'm wondering whether I too will see signs of spring in my little back garden anytime soon. At the moment it looks pretty bleak out there, but seeing your beautiful photos this morning allows for some hope. Jx

    1. Dear Janice - I am hoping that I was not too premature - looking out of the window tiny flecks of snow are to be seen - with a bit of luck it will not settle.
Hoping all is going well with you, I am thinking of you.♥

  13. Beautiful flowers indeed. We have just brown leaves and mud in our garden at the moment. I am hoping for some signs of new life soon. The sun is coming to stay for a while tomorrow ... apparently!

  16. Dear Rosemary,
We went into Dusseldorf today - snow was still falling but then we saw winter aconite in flower in the park and right next to it a lot of daffodil shoots pushing up through the ground.
Hooray we thought - Spring is in the air!
