November Sojourn

Aphrodisias

The Celsus Library at Ephesus built between A.D. 100 and 110 by Gaius Iulius Aquila for his father, the senator Tiberius Iulius Celsus Polemaeanus.
Now that November is almost here it's time for us to take our leave. We look forward to renewing our acquaintance with one of the great cities of the world. Like Alexander the Great before us, our travels will then take us to a place known from Classical sources as Asia Minor - the setting for a legend described in Homer's Iliad and the scene of a ten year long war. We shall visit a recently excavated ancient city where the last of St.John, the Apostle, sent is seventh of the seven letters - Revelations lll: 14 - 22 which includes "Behold, I stand at the door and knock".

I wonder if we will discover anymore surreal landscapes?

From past experience, November is a lovely month
the sunshine helps foreshorten our British winter and
we have always enjoyed delicious food together with a gracious welcome

  2. How exciting to see a recently excavated city, Rosemary. The Celsus Library looks wonderful too. I have always thought I'd love to visit Ephesus - perhaps it is the biblical connection. Bon voyage for an enjoyable trip in the November sunshine.

  6. Rosemary - have a fabulous visit. Istanbul is Bob's favorite place in the world, I loved it too when there a couple of years back. We visited Ephesus in drizzly, chilly rain, but I recall how amazing it was.

Bon voyage - stay well and have a wonderful time in sunshine.
    Mary -

PS. . . . . .BTW Rosemary, you mentioned your blogging friend in Caunes. My brother and SIL know her and her husband and in fact had them over for dinner not long before we visited! Small world isn't it?

  26. I've only visited Turkey once and somehow don't feel I did it justice. Sometimes, you have to bite the bullet and I think I should probably go on a tour and see several different regions in a "if it's Monday it must be Cappadocia" sort of way! Your photos are, as ever, magnificent.
