Island in the Sun

An archipelago of seven islands sitting in the Mediterranean Sea three of which are inhabited. However, between them they have 365 churches - that's one for each day of the year. Staying on the largest island inhabited since 5200 BC. Occupied and ruled in turn by Phoenicians, Romans, Moors, Normans, Sicilians, Spanish, Order of St. John, French and finally the British.

I am hoping to see these two paintings - they are by one of Italy's greatest Baroque High Renaissance painters - a favourite artist of my youngest son.

  1. Dear Rosemary, Love your charming postcard. Looking forward to the next instalment.

Looks like Caravaggio is following you. The chopping off of heads seems to be a re-occurring theme.

  7. What fun, how exciting Rosemary. That looks like Caravaggio, wonderful pictures. I was awestruck by his paintings which I saw in Rome. 365 churches is incredible, and I can't wait to hear where you have been.
