Your kind messages...........

........................................were greatly appreciated - thank you.

Despite the wretched Covid virus, it appears that other viruses too have also been doing the rounds, some of which have caused strange and difficult reactions for many. Midway through last December we both caught a flue type virus that for me was over within days, but for my husband it dragged on and on. By the middle of January we had thought that he was beginning to recover, but in fact he became far worse. Without going into too much detail, the paramedics came to the house twice, two hospital visits with many tests, and nights where we feared he would not see the light of day. This all continued until two weeks ago when suddenly he started to turn the corner and is now slowly building back his strength day by day. The warmer weather, the flowers in the garden, lighter nights and sunnier days will hopefully help. It is my understanding that the immunity that we have all built up over the years could have been compromised. This is mainly due to the strange lives that we have all been living for the past three years particularly those of us who have not been mixing with others as much as we normally would have done.

Do take care yourselves.

  1. What frightening events the flu virus caused for your husband and I hope he continues to be on the mend. Lighter days and sunshine all help with healing and definitely with our mood.

  6. It's wonderful to see you back, Rosemary. Your husband seems to have gone through a drastic illness and we are all happy that he has come through it. Let's hope that's the end of it and good health is the order of the day from now on. Perhaps as you say, the isolation we have all experienced during COVID has compromised the normal robust responses of our immune system.

  8. What a terrible situation! But glad that your husband is getting better now. Yes, so many viruses and illnesses circulating now in the wake of covid, it's alarming. Wishing both of you a much happier and healthier Spring!

  9. So sorry to hear that, Rosemary. I am glad your husband is now recovering and, as you say, summer approaching should help. I am sure we have less resilience due to isolating for so long.

  10. Dear Rosemary, I am so glad to see you here again - and to read that your husband after hard weeks is recovering!
That very strange flu caught us too: I suffered only 3 days, the triplets sniffled and had fever but hopped gaily around - but my son was hit extremely: more than 2 weeks with fever over 40,6° Celsius - that is life-threatening and we worried very much - than a bit recovery, than very high fever again.
We have the same explanation as you - may I add my personal guess that men are more wrecked by that flu than woman?
However: I am glad to hear that you all are getting better - I missed your beautiful photos and so interesting posts very, very much.
Let spring bring us back normal happy life! Britta

  12. Hello Rosemary, What a scary situation, and what a relief to hear that your and your husband's situation is now improving. We have been so concerned since your last post. It is a terrible and sobering realization that isolation during an epidemic can be equally necessary and harmful. I am sure that anticipations and glimpses of your garden have provided considerable balm during this period.

  13. Dear Rosemary, how lovely to see you back. I am so glad your husband is now recovering from what must have been a frightening and very anxious time for you all. May the coming Spring put a spring in his step, as you enjoy your beautiful garden, the bluebells and the daffodils. Funny thing, I thought of you this morning and wondered how you were going - I must have a little bit of ESP! You make a good point about the effect of isolation on our immune systems. By the standards of many, we in this house have been at the extreme end of caution in this regard, and ceased many of our normal activities. Food for thought indeed.

  16. I have thought of you and your family over the past weeks but only today decided maybe you were back. Since we all have been dealing with so many things these past three years, I was really anxious to see you back online and sure enough - here you are! With your past weekly activities that you have written about I extend my hopeful wishes for a continuance as your husband regains his strength. It is such a joy to read your descriptions, historical information and to enlighten us as we relive your wanderings and hikes through your artistic and colorful photos!

  18. Dear Rosemary - I read you’d away from blogging for the sake of your family. I wondered what and then have been off line for long. Forgive me for not having responded soon. I understand how you had been feeling and now I’ m glad for you with a sigh of relief. Wish your husband constantly recovering. We need to be naturally exposed to usual bacteria or viruses. In Japan, a mysterious form of acute hepatitis is spread among children. It’s so worrisome.
