When you look out of the window during winter and see bare branches and empty flower beds it is easy to think of the season as an ending. But underground, the cold is softening the shells of seeds ready for germination, the eggs of insects are waiting to hatch and trees have sugar stored in their roots poised for an explosion of leaf growth once the warmer weather arrives. The idea that Winter signals an ending is not true, it is simply paving the way for new beginnings. Let's all celebrate this festive season, and embrace with positivity 2025 when it arrives.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season!
ReplyDeleteGreetings to you and yours too Debra.
DeleteMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Positive thoughts. From now on it's lighter by 2 and then 3 minutes a day until spring. And it's been a very mild December so far for all the pensioners indoors, so another unexpected bonus.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas Bob - sorry I have been getting more and more absent from here, time is catching up with me. I have one brave little snowdrop already in flower in the garden.
DeleteHello Rosemary, Happy Holidays to you and your family! If you really miss insects all that much just come to Taiwan--they never take a break here, especially the mosquitoes! Your post made it sound that your garden was quite barren. I didn't think this was possible, and your reply to Blueskyscotland showed that your garden hasn't quite given up. Besides, stone walls, garden features and barren stems (especially fruit trees) can be quite attractive and sculptural.

Dear Rosemary, thank you: that's how I see winter too: a time to rest, recover, and gather new strength, as Earth and Nature do. New life is on it's way - we have to trust - and we do, as the days grow longer now - that light (and reason, hopefully) will come back.
ReplyDeleteI wish you and your family a beautiful Christmas and a Happy New Year! Britta
Happy Christmas to you and yours, Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteHello again, My comment didn't seem to arrive. I wanted to wish you Happy Holidays, and to note that your garden, even when relatively bare, still contains the beautiful sculptural effects of stones and bare branches and vines.

Merry Christmas, dear Rosemary, to you and your family. I wish you a marvellous festive season and look forward to seeing you around these pages again next year. X
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your family a very Happy Christmas Day, Rosemary. Spring after a cold Winter is a wonderful sight, especially after snow. We are enjoying the sturdy red flowers of a hot Summer here in Australia.
ReplyDeleteDear Rosemary - Now that it’s gotten so cold here, I remember the comforts of the too warm autumn, though so abnormal. Having said that, I love simple beauty of winter. I love your expression about winter, too, about the beginning of new life. Wish you a lovely holiday season with the warmth of family being together.
