Arrived this morning - then departed in a flash

We had our first ground frost this morning - soft and fluffy - looking for all the world as if they had been dipped in icing sugar. By the time I had taken these pictures and returned indoors it had all vanished!!!
The promise of a good day ahead.

  2. You captured the moment nicely, Rosemary. Ice crystals made the colored leaves look sugar-coated. It looks cold but nice to know the promise of a good day ahead. Have a nice day.

  3. Hello Rosemary:
Such wonderful, but wintry, pictures. As yet the temperature has not fallen below zero and today, as it happens, is wonderfully warm and sunny for the time of year. No need yet for the Comrades to don fur coats!

    1. Hello Jane and Lance - I thought that we were in for a really cold day, and suddenly it changed before my eyes. Gone was the white grass and back was the green - extraordinary.

  4. As always, dramatic and unusual photos. I don't recall leaves having such a heavy rim of frost, although to be honest, I was never much for getting out early.

    1. Dear Jim - I wasn't really up and about early myself. Just nipped out quickly into the garden, but in my dressing gown. Fortunately no one was about.

  10. Hi Rosemary,

The layer of frost makes everything look beautiful! We had a first hail storm today. Winter is on our doorstep!

  12. Great photos. Thanks for your comment on mine. The one third rule as you guessed it is to take a photo with the main item / person you want to capture off centre. It does improve some images no end.

  13. Today there was frost here too Rosemary, after some days with mild weather ( = lots of rain )
It lasted all day and about three o'clock came the snow again!

Not fun to drive but very very beautiful : )

    1. Dear Demie - I expect you have your winter tyres on now which must help in the snow. I seem to remember my son saying that car tyres have to be on by a certain date ready for the snows arrival.
Our frost was so strange, it vanished in a matter of minutes, I have never seen it disappear so quickly.

  15. Hello Rosemary! What beautiful pictures you showed us of your first ground frost! Thanks for sharing them! I saw your post on my mobile on my way back home from the beach!!!! Oh, yes, we still have nice weather here and enjoy our swimming almost every day! There were a dozen people on the beach today! But the truth is that I long for a cosy fire as I am fully into my Xmas decoupage creations for various charity bazaars. I enjoy your posts very much indeed and I have learned so many things from them.
    All the best!

    1. Thank you Marie-Anne, pleased you enjoyed seeing them. All of you Greek girls are very busy with your lovely decoupage creations. I can see that the sunny weather on the beach could be a big draw when perhaps you would like to be making more items for your charity bazaars. Thanks for your lovely comment.

    1. That happens so often Sarah, you see something you would like to photograph and the camera is at home. I now keep my camera permanently but securely attached to my handbag strap just in case I need it. The other thing I have to remember is to keep the battery charge up.

  18. Lucky you Rosemary, that it vanished that fast, here in Norway it is snowing, and the wind is rather stormy. I am sitting under a warm blanket...

    Your photos are all wonderful!

    1. I could not believe how quickly it went Lise - Demie told me that you had snow in Norway, and I think you are much further north than her. Yes, keep cosy and warm under your blanket. Hope that the wind does not drift the snow.

  19. Lovely photos - we've had several frosts already in the North and at a large, outdoor antiques event in Lincolnshire on Monday the paths were like an ice-rink. No racing about for bargains until the sun warmed things up!

  21. This first frost made for some gorgeous close-up photo's! The bright fall coloured leaves with a white brim, like sugar dust, are terrific, as are the blades of grass that got the exact same 'treatment'.
Love the last picture as well. Just a tiny piece of blue sky showing, the sun behind the tree, shining through and giving the clouds a warm glow. Wonderful!
