Going to Stourhead makes a delightful day out. You can walk the easy route around the lake or if you are feeling more energetic clamber up and down the steep pathways through the woods. Should you wish to visit the house as well, then an early start is necessary but try to avoid the weekends.

Gorgeous autumn photos of Stourhead! This is one of the most impressive landscape gardens I have ever visited in your country. So interesting it´s designed by the owner Henry Hoare jr. himself together with architect Flitcroft. A visit in autumn with the wonderful colours must be a delight, we were there in May and that also was very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am pleased that you have visited Stourhead Janneke - May is also a good time to visit when the blossom is out - I must have missed your post, perhaps it was when I was away.
DeleteThese mid-October photos from Stourhead have really lifted my spirits today. Thank you so much. What a gift you have for beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Nancy - your very kind comment has made my day
DeleteAutumn is very slow this year, we don't see much colours here yet either.
ReplyDeleteThere was quite a lot of colour but much more still to come
DeleteAh, so relaxing and soothing to go through your Autumn views and colours, Rosemary. It is my favourite season, and is beautifully shown at Stourhead.
ReplyDeleteI like Autumn too Patricia but for me it is tinged with that feeling that Winter is not too far away.
DeleteYou've captured some amazing shots! So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Debra
DeleteDear Rosemary, Sooo many beautiful photographs. My favorite: the branch with the muted colors reflected in the water.
ReplyDeleteI think that is one of my favourites too Gina - the tree was way out in the lake so I zoomed in on it and fortunately it still retained much of its detail.
DeleteWonderful photos, it does look autumnal. I remember our visit to Stourhead well.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you have visited Stourhead Mac and Janet
DeleteThis looks like a very pleasant place to stroll around, especially with the autumn colour and the lovely reflections.
ReplyDeleteWe went on Monday and fortunately it was a good day with lovely blue skies.
DeleteSpeachless...Nature never cease to amaze me through your stunning photos Rosemary!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Olympia I am extremely touched by your very kind comment♡
DeleteLovely autumnal pictures - a glorious time of year in lovely surroundings.
ReplyDeleteI read somewhere that the autumn colours would be early this year, but it still has yet to reach its full crescendo.
DeleteGlorious
ReplyDelete♡
DeleteSimply glorious - we went last summer but autumn is far better for the colours at Stourhead.

Next time I think that I would like to visit during blossom time when the Magnolias and Rhododendrons are in flower.
DeleteIt feels like this Autumn is going to be a great one for colour. Certainly looks that way at Stourhead.
ReplyDeleteI read that it was going to be earlier Jessica, but does in fact seem to be later.
DeleteGlorious autumn, indeed! I’d like to start early on weekdays according to your advice if I have a chance to visit there in person. Autumn colors are delayed in my part of the world because summer heat has been lingering. Colors are mostly green, though not lush but yellowish, so I could enjoy brilliance of the season through your lovely photos.
ReplyDeleteYoko
Hello Yoko - you always have lovely photos of the Autumn colours, and I shall look foward to seeing them
DeleteHello Rosemary, Stourhead really looks like my kind of place--all those trees, water, and classical stone buildings. The touch of fall color further highlights its beauty. I hear from my relatives in Ohio that autumn is really shaping up in a spectacular manner this year. I also miss those crisp, tart fall apples that I am sure that you are enjoying in abundance!
ReplyDelete--Jim
Hello Jim - we are having some of our fall apples tonight in a crumble - this historic garden is such a lovely place to wander. I must return again in the blossom time as I have only ever visited in the Autumn.
DeleteWhat can I say....pure delight for the eyes !
ReplyDeleteDelighted you enjoyed seeing it Jane
DeleteYour photos glow with autumn's beauty - a welcome sight, especially this morning as it's dark and very wet outside.
ReplyDeleteI hate those dark wet wet days, but the spirits can soon be lifted the very next day if the sun cares to show herself.
DeleteI love wandering around large estates and that must be one of the best.
ReplyDeleteIt takes full advantage of its situation in a beautiful valley.
DeleteI have never visited in blossom time, hopefully I will have an opportunity to do so next year.
ReplyDeleteWonderful as always.
ReplyDelete♡
DeleteLike the colors.
ReplyDeleteGreetings,
Filip
Thanks Filip
DeleteIt does seem to be taking a long time for the leaves to turn this year. I just looked at my post on Stourhead written at the beginning of November three years ago and it did look a lot browner. It must have been a lovely day to walk around Stourhead and the colours are still gorgeous. Sarah x
ReplyDeleteNext time I visit Sarah it will be when the Magnolias and Rhododendrons are in flower as I am sure that it must look lovely at that time of year too.
DeleteDear Rosemary,
ReplyDeleteThe Autumnal colours are so beautiful and must have been wonderful visiting this tranquil place. Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos.
have a lovely week
hugs
Carolyn
