Christmas Time

T'was the first Christmas night during Corona,
and across much of the world
the unfolding nightmare continued.
The beastly virus changed and
mutated a spike protein that it uses
to bind a human receptor.
Nurses and doctors collapsed from exhaustion.
Old folk aware of the dangers
tightly shuttered their windows,
whilst awaiting a call for their vaccination,
an escape route from all the mayhem.
Now as the virus continues to spread,
father gathers his strength,
mother hides her anguish from the children,
but everyone pulls together on this
different Christmas journey.
But keep calm and carry on,
the outlook appears far brighter
in
apologies for any likeness to Clement Clarke Moore's poem
"T'was the night before Christmas"

  2. Hello Rosemary, I am certainly hoping that things will get better this year, and that I finally will be able to return to the U.S., although I am adopting a wait-and-see attitude.

In the meantime, stay warm and safe, and have a relaxing time for the Holidays.

  5. Dearest Rosemary,
Well, for all those with travel plans or whatsoever it is not a good year's ending.
But in all, the fear mongering has been far worse than the reality of this virus.
Why in the world did nobody ever talk, write or warn about the yearly winter virus/cold that took so many lives of the elderly?!
Too well I remember Mom's voice, every Sunday during winter time when we called, that they had had to sing with their choir yet again... for a requiem Mass that is and not for the much more loved 40th, 50th or 60th anniversary Mass. But all that went down in history in a silent way... nobody seemed to care; except the loved ones that lost an elderly member.
Stay warm and cozy and positive!
    Wishing you a Merry Christmas.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  7. Dear Rosemary,
You are working magic. Your artwork is quite fabulous. Every element so artfully placed.
The mutated version of the Corona Virus is even more deadly. Hopefully the vaccines have come in time to make a difference.
Merry Christmas to you dear Rosemary and good health to you and yours.

  8. Your poetic skill is another of your talents, Rosemary! Well said and appreciated here. Thank you for all of your travel virtuosity that helped me control my desires to explore new places this past year! When I travel across the ocean I do plan on staying for at least three weeks so I can really get my "fill" of the new that awaits me! My trips are self-guided and very flexible! With your suggestions I may have to extend my next trip as there will be so many exquisite destinations to pack in! Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2021 to you and all of your extended family that we hear about now and then!

  13. Sadly, I think much of 2021 will mirror 2020, but I'm hoping by next Christmas we can all be together again. Wishing you a warm, safe and merry Christmas.

  14. Most enjoyable to read, Rosemary. This new virus strain is such discouraging news just as the vaccination programs are getting underway. We are planning a quiet Christmas and I'm rather looking forward to it, especially knowing that it won't be the norm for the future.
Wishing you a most Merry Christmas. I always enjoy reading your blog.

  15. Thanks for your kind words, it is a miserable end of this year. Who could have imagined that we would end this way in a pandemie. Hope next year will be a hopeful one and wish you a Merry Christmas anyway.

  22. It is cold and wet here for the last day of the year. Quite fitting to go out on a nasty note. We have been alone for the holidays and are so looking forward to 2021. We will receive our second dose of vaccine by the end of Jan and hope to travel around and see all of our daughters and grandchildren soon after.
May your new year be joyous happy and safe....Janey
