A Winter Wonderland

Stealthily, silently, you fluttered in, secretly under cover of darkness, you thought you could surprise me whilst I slept, but I sensed you, and smelt your arrival.
Daybreak - boots, alpine sticks, and warm coat ready.........
........but the swirling snow is too dangerous to venture out just yet.

  1. It looks magical Rosemary.
Takes me back to when I was a child, and I would open the curtains and see the new fresh snow had fallen during the night.
When i visit Nina.. we have often woke to a carpet of fresh snow.
    A lovely picture.
I hear on the news that England is "snowed down" so to say.
    take care

    1. It looks lovely Val but is not suitable to go out in with a camera - too much blowing and swirling going on. We are warm in our house, and have a big chicken to roast. Once the chicken is finished I shall make a big pot of vegetable soup from the carcass.

  2. It's the same here Rosemary, it's been falling steady since very early in the morning and as a result there's an increasingly thick layer of the stuff on the ground.

  3. Hello Rosemary:
Well, you have had your wish and your corner of England has not been left out!! It does all look so magical but one always has a thought for those who are forced to venture out for whatever reason.

Here the sleet continues to fall!

    1. Hello Jane and Lance - I am not sure how many people are venturing out, we cannot see the road from here. It is different for those who are forced out for school and work as you mention, we have the choice of staying in and being warm.
The snow is blowing about forming incredible drifts similar to sand dunes in the desert.

  4. Hello Rosemary, How lovely to see the freshly fallen snow! Such a beautiful sight to wake up to, 'though it seems you sensed it's coming. Enjoy your warm home and roast chicken. Soup sounds good too.

    1. Hello Betty - if the snow eases up I shall venture out but at the moment it is not suitable. We are warm indoors, but no doubt it is cold outside.

  5. Absolutely Heavenly, Rosemary. Waking in the morning to see the snow has silently arrived over night is a thrill I have experienced only once, in England a few years ago. It is magical, as Val says. Wish I could fly over to see it..

  10. So glad to see it's arrived for you too, Rosemary. Super photos, especially the night-time one. It looks like your flakes have been bigger than ours. Here the snow is incredibly fine and though it's almost stopped falling, it is blowing around a great deal and being scoured from the roof to be deposited against walls, doors and windows. I'm staying indoors too until the wind drops.

    1. Our snow is more like yours now Perpetua, and also blowing off the roof tops in great clouds of snow - it is quite dramatic. I was really surprised how clear the night photo was, I used the flash which showed up the flakes quite clearly.

    1. Dear Patricia - you must be the only little corner in England that has not seen the snow this winter. I am really not keen on snow, but I do enjoy photographing it, if only I could get out.

  14. Hello Rosemary, I love your colorful planters. Usually snow scenes are "whited out" but the colors in that first picture really add a special dimension. The further don't make it seem less snowy or cold; the brightness form an additional contrast to make us realize the quality of the snow.

    1. Dear Jim - that photo was one of those lucky chances. I could see that it had started to snow, pointed my little camera out into the darkness with the flash switched on, and that was the result. I didn't expect the camera to pick up on the blobs of snow in the way it has or light up the garden pots.

  17. Beautiful photos Rosemary. I'm looking forward to when you can get outside and provide us with some more wonderful images. I drove across the tops near Haworth yesterday, before this new bout of snow set in. The fields and moors were still covered in a white blanket from the previous fall, but the road was beautifully clear. The hoar frost on the trees was remarkable. The journey was really magical. Today, I expect the road would be impassable ! J.

We shall venture out although I think that we shall have to walk along the road within the car tracks. Across the land there are too many big snow drifts to negotiate.

  26. What lovely snow photos! I especially love the feeling the bottom photo gives me...like being inside an impressionist snow scene! 1. Dear Sarah - welcome and lovely to hear from you. This is the third year in a row that we have been presented with snow - nothing for the 15 years previously - does seem like the weather patterns are changing. This country always grinds to a halt when it snows unlike countries which seem to be able to keep going and have the right equipment to deal with it.
