My Dear Mr. Snow

Being totally frank and honest, it is time for you to go......

during this past week you have graced us with your presence. Your visit has been welcome - a promise now fulfilled..........
You've enhanced our forest.......
waved your magic wand around our garden, but ......
it is time for you to pack your bags, your task is now complete. Lets bid each other fond farewells and say adieu.....
........warmer days are written right across the sky.

  1. Hello Rosemary:
One can indeed have too much of a good thing. But you must in some ways be delighting in having a 'proper' winter in Britain - it has been some time now, or so we think.

More snow is expected here, or so we are told.

    1. Dear Jane and Lance - Joy of joys my wish has been granted. There is no snow in the valleys now and most of it where we live thawed overnight (we live 750ft high) - it is feeling positively mild.

  2. Hello Rosemary, In your first picture, the snow looks so much like cotton bolls, as were shown recently in Mariette's blog: http://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.tw/2012/12/cotton-field-in-heart-of-georgiausa.html

    1. You have a good memory Jim - I had seen that photos on Mariette's blog, and they do bear a strong resemblance. Just after I photographed those seed heads a flock of Goldfinch flew in and completely stripped the seeds away.

  3. Hear Hear !!

And what is more, we have had him in this part of the world for over two weeks now. Today however we will have 3c which is our first above 0 temperature for a some time, and on Wednesday 11c!

So AGA and I bang our hot chocolate mugs on the table and heartily second your motion.

Let it be entered at once in to 'The Books'.

    1. Dear Kirk - it was last Saturday morning when I looked out of the windows and discovered our wonderful white magical world. A week of it has been enough - however, I am very happy here, overnight it has virtually gone. They do say red sky at night shepherds delight, I will send Mr Thaw over to you and AGA promptly.

    1. Dear Olympia - my wish has been granted - a mild stream of air came in overnight with the red sky, and very little snow now remains. I am very happy.
I think most of my plants will be alright, but will have to cross my fingers and wait and see.

  5. Oh Rosemary, Mr Snow came in last night into our City during Rush hour on a big snow storm. It took me 90 mins just to drive home. Normally takes me 30 mins to drive home from work. But waking up this morning with all of the snow outside is just magical! Have a good weekend.

    1. Poor you, it does look magical at first, but a week is long enough for me. Ours melted last night when a warm front came in.

  6. Love ALL your photos rosemary! Most people have by now had and seen enough of the snow.
    Bye,

    1. It has gone Marian - just a few blobs hanging around, the weather changed overnight and it is now quite mild.

    2. By now you'll be waking to another day. I hope there's some warmth in the sunshine to melt the last of the week's snow.

    3. I cannot believe it, the snow has completely gone, the spring sun is shinning and it is as if it never happened.

  7. Beautiful photos. Perhaps nicer to experience through photography than in real life. Hoping you get sunny skies soon.

  8. Dear Rosemary, what do I see? Pink blossoms on your tree? No wonder you would like for Mr Snow to disappear. However, without Mr Snow we would not have been vowed by your snowy photographs. More snow to come for us in the next few days. Spring is a long way away in central Utah.

    1. Dear Gina - that is pink blossom but it is a winter flowering shrub - Viburnum bodnantense, and can tolerate frost and snow.
Yes, I was happy to see the snow, but for me a week is long enough, I am not conditioned to it like you are.
Mr Snow heard me, and apart from a few small patches, he has gone.

  9. After a final fling last night he's on his way from here, Rosemary. By the sound of the weather forecast we'll be grumbling about the rain by tomorrow. :-)

    1. Dear Perpetua - delighted when I looked out of the window this morning. The warm front that came in last night has done the deed. It was beautiful, but I am not sorry to say goodbye.

  10. Dear Rosemary - Yesterday I had about 30 red robins in my back yard (something that happens one day per year here), so I think winter (or perhaps I should say spring) is on the move!

    1. Dear Mark - Delighted to say that the snow has completely gone in the valley, and just one or two clumps of snow hanging around up here. I am very happy.
Did you take any photos of your red robins, I do not think that they look like ours. Ours are very territorial and if you have one in the garden he thinks it is his domain, and chases any others away.
It is time to think about holidays.

    1. Quite so - I cannot believe how quickly he has vanished, he took the hint and went on his way. I do agree when it first fell it was beautiful, but a week is long enough for me. I am very happy at his demise.

  12. Hi Rosemary, wonderful photos of showing the beauty of snow, but I can understand that you rather have Mr. Snow leave now and keep his visit short and sweet ;-)! Wishing you a nice weekend!

  13. Beautiful photos, Rosemary. It is bitterly cold here in DC. And we finally have snow :) Yay!!! In the city, it is pretty for a day or two. Then it all turns black and messy. I'm almost ready for spring....not just yet!

    1. It is pretty when it first arrives Loi, and the contrast is magically. We live so high up that our snow doesn't become dirty but I just got fed up with it after a week. I am delighted that it has gone, hopefully that is it, and I can look forward to spring.

    1. Hello Helen, we now have glorious spring sunshine and not a spot of snow anywhere. The red sky ushered in a very mild front. I am just off to check out my little snowdrops to see if they have been survived under the snow blanket.
