I will be absent during June

Just finished flowering in our garden at the end of May - Cercis siliquastrum

My computer problems continue - I realise that it would be preferable to buy a new one, but when this one works I like it. A new hard drive has been installed, everything has been updated, but now my eldest son considers that more memory is required. When the parts have been delivered, my granddaughter's boyfriend has kindly said that he will install it for us. I have decided to take a break from this blog for the next three or four weeks, and wait to see how things transpire. Writing posts and uploading photos is very slow and tedious here at the moment, which takes the pleasure away from blogging. I shall still try to visit your blogs from time to time as that does not appear to be a problem.

  2. Hello Rosemary,
I am so sorry you are having so much trouble with your computer. I didn't get the computer gene that kids seem to be born with today. When I have a problem I too have to go and find help. I hope it is all resolved soon.
Your garden looks beautiful. I love the stacked stone wall too.
I will miss your posts. XXX

    1. Dear Catherine - I do not have the computer gene either. The drystone wall in our garden is a typical Cotswold feature. We have them all around our fields as well as our gardens.
Hope I am back soon - take care💚

  3. I am having to use my husband’s computer. It is set up in the muddled way only a wool gathering scientist could love, or understand. Things are not going well.

    1. Sorry you are having difficulties too Susan - I think that I have been far too lucky in the past as I have only suffered tiny niggles before and I have been blogging for quite a few years.

  7. Dear Rosemary,

I understand your frustration. When things go right, blogging is a lot of fun. However, when it takes way too much time to make the computer do what you want it to do, then it is extremely stressful. Installing more memory is a good idea. The procedure only takes a few minutes but only if you know what you are doing. I am glad that you have someone who will do it for you.

I will miss your beautiful photos and I will miss going on those wonderful outings. The kind of blog you write takes a lot of time and your photos are always so special, again more time involved in getting them the way you like them.

Your garden is stunning. So much thought and love you put into it. At least your garden shows how much work and patience went into it. It rewards you over and over again.

I will miss you. Please know that we will be here to welcome you back.

    1. Dear Gina - your comment is so kind and generous, how could I possibly not come back to wonderful friends like you.
We have a little video showing how to add more memory to our computer but my granddaughter's boyfriend builds computers just for fun. She met him whilst she was at Oxford Univerity so I think we shall be fairly safe hands.
I had a look at a blogging forum and found that because I had so many posts showing on my home page that could be problem and slow things down, and certainly I am finding at the moment that it has improved. I didn't ask blogger to show so many continuous posts on my home page, they seem to do things to your blog whenever they please.
The garden is filled with colour - it is just as if all the flowers and trees were also fed up with our long cold winter, and are madly flowering as if there is no tomorrow.

    2. Dear Rosemary,

I have presently 8 posts on my home page. You are in control of how many posts per page. I need to find the exact place for you so you can change it.

Recently, I upped the speed with my Server. It costs a little extra but helped speed up every function.

Of course, posting from different countries, this may not be a solution for you.

    3. Thank you Gina - I have now reduced the posts on my home page so that it shows one post only, and it certainly has helped. My posts are very overloaded with photos so showing so many on the one page must obviously be too much. However, I did not change it to 8, Blogger did it, so you really have to keep a close eye on just what they are up to. You can change your posts to 1 by going into your desktop - go to settings - then post, and if it says more than 1 post is shown on the main page, then you can change it and save. It really does help.
The computer man checked my speed and he said that it is good.

  8. First, when I saw that wonderful flowering Cercis and the words 'I will be absent during June', I thought you should go on travelling to a far away place (I still remember that beautiful India journey you made). But no, computer difficulties are something very different and a nuisance because we (think) we cannot do one minute without. I hope we shall not miss your great blogposts too long, but in the meantime I wish you a very relaxing time, more time to spend in your garden.

  9. Hope you get it fixed soon. Not fun having computer problems. I have just noticed my email box no longer shows comments for my blog due to an unwanted, unasked for automatic upgrade. So it might not be your computer wholly to blame as every new upgrade recently seems to screw something else up that worked fine before. Off to try and fix it back the way it was :o)

    1. Thanks for that Bob - I am beginning to think that I may have spent a lot of money when it was bloggers fault all along. I have also been having problems with the comments not coming into my email too. I read that if you have more than one post on the home page that slows up the blog hugely and I had six. Not my doing but changed by them - it is no wonder we get cross with blogger. If they change things they should let us know.
I have had to learn how to use my newly upgraded computer all over again, and it has given me computer fatigued for the time being.

    2. Hi Rosemary,
Found out the reason for comments not appearing in Yahoo's email box is Blogger no long supports open ID and various other things. People complaining online about this so hopefully they might bring it back but my mate thinks Blogger might fold altogether as less people are using blogs. You can transfer everything over to WordPress if that happens even though its a hassle. I could do without that prospect but better than nothing. Fingers crossed. Just letting you know the disappearing emails appear to be as a result of blogger changes internally not anything else.

    3. Thank you Bob - I am really grateful to you for letting me know. I shall now be prepared if or when blogger folds to switch over to Wordpress. Keeping my fingers crossed too.

    1. Hello Jim - I am beginning to realise that it was not wholly my computer but blogger. However, I don't think that it has done any harm to have the computer upgraded, although it is now asking me if I want to upgrade to the new 'high sierra' but I have had enough of computer upgrades for the time being - I am suffering from computer fatigue.

We just cannot believe how our box has come back to life - it is now the most lush brilliant luminous green. So all is not bad here, as that is certainly a little miracle as far as we are concerned.

  22. I sympathise with the computer problems, but I'm glad that you have had some helpful advice from family members. That's always welcome when it comes to personal computers. I'm finding my own technical problems a challenge. It takes the enjoyment out of downloading, editing, then writing and sharing through blogging. I hope that you come back to blog posting when you can. Meanwhile enjoy your beautiful garden and other interests.

I have found an article about blogger auto pagination which may be responsible for it running slowly - https://georgialoustudios.com/what-is-blogger-auto-pagination/
It may be of help to you. I am going to get my granddaughters boyfriend to check this out for me when he comes next weekend.
