The answer is a Lemon Squeezer.
The first almost correct answer came from Debra who said "Would it be designed to juice some very small fruit or perhaps an olive. Debra got it 75% correct.
The second correct answer came from Susan Heather who said "It definitely looks as though it presses juice out of some fruit. I would have thought citrus.
The third almost correct answer came from
Jeanneke who said "Is it some kind of juice press? So Jeanneke was also 75% correct.
I'm surprised I came as close as I did!

DeleteI would not have guessed that size of object and was thinking more soft nut size as I watched certain nuts recently getting pressed for fluid, but 100s at one time. Posting a comment on your last post was also a challenge as it wouldn't let me in so I gave up after 8 attempts. I've had better luck this time.
ReplyDeleteI too continually encounter problems re: commenting, and like you eventually give up. Blogger used to be easier than the minefield it has become today.
DeleteHello Rosemary, Like Blueskyscotland above, I was thinking of a smaller sized object. I should have asked for a clarification. I see that the threads are pretty much worn away, so the pressure needed for a lemon squeezer seems about right. --Jim
ReplyDeleteHello Jim - generally the squeezer is in pretty good order considering that it is 200 years old, but the threads are very worn.
DeleteWell done ladies, and i must say something like the answers crossed my mind..but I didn't really have a clue.

DeleteHow I missed this post I am not sure, Rosemary, but I wouldn’t have known the answer anyway. Maybe we could modify it to be a thumb screw for politicians in an effort to have them do the right thing once in a while.
ReplyDeleteHa!- what a good idea David.
DeleteLate to the party, as ever, but I love your treenware, dear Rosemary. I wouldn't have twigged to a lemon squeezer either, thinking it was smaller. Your nutmeg grater is in great condition, too - the metal is often rusty, rendering them useless.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have known.
