Seasonal greetings to all
"Peace cannot exist without justice, justice cannot exist without fairness, fairness cannot exist without development, development cannot exist without democracy, democracy cannot exist without respect for the identity and worth of cultures and peoples."
Rigoberta Menchu, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate
So self-evident yet so elusive.
ReplyDeleteWe must have hope.
DeleteA beautiful image and quotation! May you and your family have a wonderful holiday season!
ReplyDeleteA happy holiday season to you too Debra.
DeleteHello Rosemary, I hope that you and your family have every happiness this holiday and in the coming year.
ReplyDelete--Jim
p.s.: I did not know that angels had red wings. Those must be Cardinal Angels from Ohio. (Cardinals are our State Bird.)
Hello Jim - these three angels are part of a very large William Morris tapestry which depicts the Holy Grail. The angels were designed for Morris by Edward Burne-Jones.
DeleteWe both send greetings to you Jim and hopefully a more peaceful year to come.
Beautiful - I notice their lips match their wingsI The red cardinal is our state bird also in North Carolina, we enjoy them year round in the garden.
ReplyDeleteThe words are powerful - sadly laws and justice appear to have become totally unmanageable in today's society. This world is a very sad place.
Sending love and good wishes for the Christmas season dear friends, and may 2024 see changes for the better of all.
I have always loved Burne-Jones depiction for William Morris of these Pre-Raphaelite angels.
DeleteEveryone that I talk to of our generation feels the same Mary. The days when we were young now feel so carefree and innocent in comparison.
Seasons greetings to you Bob and your family. One of our granddaughters is doing Christmas for the very first time, so I am having a very easy ride this year.
Democracy? I remember what that used to
ReplyDeletemean. Wait a sec... it is coming back. .
I hope that you right Hels - wishing you and your family a very happy holiday.
DeleteWhat a timely sentiment. and a Beautiful Tapestry! Is it a William Morris design? Seasons Greetings to you too!!
ReplyDeleteYes - the angels were designed by Burne-Jones for a William Morris tapestry depicting the Holy Grail.
DeleteMay the holiday season be one of happiness for you.
Such a rich and gorgeous image. Words that the world longs for. Merry Christmas, Rosemary, and best wishes for a wonderful holiday season.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes to you and your lovely family Lorrie.
DeleteBeautiful detail of the angels. Fine words but unfortunately events of the last year or so leave me thinking just who are the good guys and who are the bad guys in any conflict. And who decides? Our government seems very sure of the answer to that but this year I find myself wondering, like never before, if those words mean anything at all when it involves the murky complex world of influence, money and international affairs. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year... in the free prosperous world we are lucky to live in. Where those words might well ring true.
ReplyDeleteYou have hit the nail on the head Bob - so many of us feel disillusioned and cynical.
DeleteSo true Rosemary.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and your family - and a Happy New Year.
Greetings to you and your family Margaret.
DeleteWishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas and new year. B x

This tapestry is ours - it is just a small fragment of the original one. We bought it many years ago whilst travelling in France - it was woven in Flanders.

DeleteWishing you and yours love, peace and joy all through the season and beyond. Big storm last night in our part of the Pacific Northwest.Today the sun is shining on the trees at the edge of the forest beckoning us for a walk. If only the same blessing was available to all. P.S. I'm a big fan of Burne-Jones.
ReplyDeleteI too am a big fan of the Pre-Raphalites especially Burne-Jones and Wm Morris - their paintings, architecture, stain glass and their lives.
